Every disco generation has their hero, and UK’s DJ Harvey is one of today’s most revered musical icons from Honolulu to Sendai. A veteran of the scene for over twenty years, Harvey has taken the worldwide stage by storm from the get-go. Known for being the first to bring NY’s late hero Larry Levan to the UK, Harvey is considered one of the leading figures at the forefront of the country’s Disco revival movement.
Founder of the Sarcastic Disco parties in Hawaii and label boss of the former Black Cock Records edits imprint (serious collectors drop up to $300 on these babies), Harvey is one of today’s most sought-after producers and DJs. His name alone connotes a certain adventurism, interchangeable with words like eclectic, fearless, obscureand open-minded. Not only do these attributes shine through his music but they are what makes Harvey one of the most favored DJs to see play out. Full of energy and positive spirit, Harvey is known for his infectious vigor behind the decks – go hear him play and you’ll find nothing less than a grinning frenzy of head bobbing and body shaking manning the ones and twos. He is the wild child of today’s Disco movement, a genuinely fun-loving DJ with a true love for the craft, wholly dedicated to sharing his music far and wide through multiple collaborations, both musical and charitable. We could go on and on…
Come this weekend, DJ Harvey will be gracing the main stage at this year’s Movement Festival in Detroit – a huge honor indeed. Days ahead of his performance, we reached out to the man, the myth, and the legend and chatted about his band, spreading love in Japan and the Rwanda Ice Cream Project.[Read More]

By Cristian Salazar – Associated Press(Yahoo News)
NEW YORK – Musician Gil Scott-Heron, who helped lay the groundwork for rap by fusing minimalistic percussion, political expression and spoken-word poetry on songs such as “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” but saw his brilliance undermined by a years-long drug addiction, has died at age 62.
A friend, Doris C. Nolan, who answered the telephone listed for his Manhattan recording company, said he died Friday afternoon at St. Luke’s Hospital after becoming sick upon returning from a trip to Europe.
“We’re all sort of shattered,” she said. [Read More]

by TheBoogielady21 – 1200Dreams
1200Dreams caught up with Nutritious, one of the most appetizing DJ’s on the scene, to delve deep into his thoughts on the DJ experience and what he is up to now.
By The Boogielady… always in the boogie.
He goes by the name Nutritious, sans DJ, and has been one of the most appetizing DJ’s in the New York scene for quite some time. Now, he’s spreading his wings and from the East to the West Coast, he has played at well known events like Jam Cruise Disco, Ultra’s UMF Radio Stage, and WMC, all the while proving himself to be quite the crowd pleaser.
Born in New York to a music loving family, you can say Nutritious was more than immersed in the art form. By 16 he was skipping class playing drums in a band and gigging locally, having to sneak in to venues such as CBGB because he was underage. [Read More]

In the minds of many, the name Carl Craig epitomizes Detroit Techno. Although he was neither the first nor the flashiest of the original Detroit innovators, his 20-plus year production and club career can boast of nearly no wrong turns nor wanderings into inconsistency. If Juan Atkins is credited with the initial push over the top andDerrick May distinguished himself as the best DJ of the famous quartet, from nearly the beginning Craig was present in the background quietly pushing the developments that would lead into the second wave of Detroit music and its spread to the furthest corners of the globe. Although the exact extent of his work behind the scenes will likely never be known, as label aide to both KMS and Transmat he adeptly learned the business end of the trade, and early studio help he received from Derrick May was returned in spades as he joined his older predecessors on their groundbreaking European tours and also for their recording sessions. If early efforts asPsyche, BFC, and 69 revealed a creative mind rapidly progressing and moving through ideas faster than most ever get them, by 1995 his name was synonymous with the best and most bracing Techno the Motor City had to offer that combined deepness, hardness, and a restless futuristic and experimental aesthetic that plowed down everything in its path. Mixed by Pets for Less & Bruce Tantum
Pets for Less
Pets for Less is a new duo on the disco front, consisting of friendsAlex Fish and Mike Fisher. The two only joined forces in January and share a creative spark both in the studio and behind the decks, so we’re very excited to hear what these fresh talents have in store for us (they’ve also promised to give us a rinse of some of their own, unreleased productions). Both seasoned DJs and producers in their own right, the two share a rich palette of musical tastes inspired by a lengthy number of artists and labels. However, of late they nod towards the Hot Natured nu disco sound, noting it captures their “general love for all things funky and trouble-making.” As innocent and sweet as their moniker entails, prepare for some badass-style disco this time around…
Alex Fish (aka Holosound)
Holosound (aka Alex Fish) is one of New York’s best-kept secrets. Ever since he emerged on the scene in 2004 as a two-man production, later becoming a one-man powerhouse, Holosound’s reputation for quality and consistency has permeated many corners of the global dance-music community and caught the attention of discerning club-goers and musicians alike. Following the exceptional success of Holosound’s monthly headlining night, “Citric,” at The Vault in New York City—a night which ran unbroken for four years straight—Alex and his former production partner,Noah Becker, launched Citric Recordings in 2008. With appearances from Tokyo to Toronto, Helsinki to London, Phuket to Estonia and all over North America—Alex has been turning heads and earning the respect of his fans and peers the world over. His unique style and knack for energizing dance-floors has also helped land Holosound gigs in support of many of the world’s top DJs—including Luke Fair, Satoshi Tomiie, Josh Wink, SOS, Kaskade, Audiofly, Desyn Masiello and others.
Mike Fisher
A recent Brooklyn transplant hailing from Washington DC, Mike Fisher has been a mover and shaker in the scene since 2003. As an established DJ he has played alongside the likes of big name headliners like M.A.N.D.Y., Matt Tolfrey, Lee Foss, to name a few. As one of the founders of the DC-based promotion crew, Mnmllife, he is one of the forces behind our capital’s growing dance music scene. Currently, the team is transitioning their brand into “Life,” steering away from the minimal sounds of the past and moving towards House and Disco’s warmer territory. In addition to being an active figure in the city’s nightlife, he is also boasts an esteemed background in music production having worked with the award winning artist Deep Dish as their studio engineer for 2 years, where he assisted in various labels such as Yoshitoshi and SCI+TEC Digital Audio.
Bruce Tantum
Does the name sound familiar? It should. DJ, journalist and all-round music-enthusiast, Tantum has been a fixture within the city’s electronic music scene since the days when clubs Studio 54, Limelight and Centro-Fly were alive and pumping. Today he is the main club editor for Time Out NY and has probably interviewed more DJs than the number of kernels in a bag of rice.
He is an essential voice and reliable source for the music, artists and trends within this far-reaching electronic music culture, whether he is covering a new album, party or festival. On top of his talent for the written word he DJs too, gigging throughout the city from rooftops to radio shows and is also a frequent guest in the UK, regularly playing alongside the DJ History crew spearheaded by Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton. Although he doesn’t parade his DJ skills don’t underestimate hits modest profile – this guy has plenty of taste and plenty of talent.
