Mixed by Taimur Agha & Thugfucker
Thugfucker (Life and Death | NYC)
Former international aid worker teams up with Icelandic security specialist and former top model to create an international DJ supergroup. Certainly not what you’d expect from a group called Thugfucker – but then Greg Oreck and Holmar Filipsson often do tend to defy expectations. One a New Yorker transplanted to Europe, the other an Icelander transplanted to New York. Both from a strong musical background with an almost obsessive dedication to the art of wild party instigation. Growing up on an Icelandic commune full of some of the country’s finest political thinkers, Holmar eschewed his past and all the heady philosophy of his childhood to move to New York and search out more physical and visceral methods of bringing happiness to the masses. Meanwhile Greg was in the midst of a successful (if short-lived) political career in America when he too became disillusioned with the duplicity and self serving interest of those around him. Disturbed by the void he saw in most people’s lives, it was in the dark depths of the New York underground club scene that he finally found his true calling. Unbeknownst to each other, Holmar and Greg then propelled themselves along similar paths, throwing parties, honing their musical & studio skills and searching out inspiration from a wide variety of musical sources. Then one late night, in a cloudy alcohol fueled discussion about the plight of the genetically Rhythm-Blind, Holmar and Greg recognized the depth of their shared passions. Thugfucker was born. The Bandwagon

SESSION 895: THE BANDWAGON 03.16.11
Mixed by Taimur Agha,Anthony Parasole(Deconstruct/halcyon) & Joey Anderson (Inmeg)
Anthony Parasole
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Anthony Parasole has had a lifelong love affair with electronic music. Listening to radio shows playing the early dance tracks from New York, Chicago, and Detroit that really perked up his ears. His earliest experiences at the New York clubs and Storm Raves really blew his mind wide open. Not content to just be another party kid, Anthony began scouring the record stores for all of his favorite tracks. From the late-80?s to the mid- 90?s, Parasole was also huge into hip-hop. His engulfment in this gritty New York street-music is an influence on his style to this day. From 2003 to 2007, Anthony was a buyer at the Halcyon record store. Through Halcyon, a real pillar of the scene in NYC, Parasole made many contacts, and of course, multiplied the size of his record collection by carefully selecting all the best records from the store. He threw the “New Jack City” party at APT with his co-workers at Halcyon, bringing in The Martinez Brothers for the first NYC gig, Slam Mode, MkL, Adultnapper, Nick Chacona, Todd Sines, Brennan Green, and many more. This party really increased Anthony’s exposure in New York, and led to many gigs at bigger clubs, including opening slots for Derrick May, Cajmere, and Layo and Bushwacka. 2008 was a great year for Anthony. He launched the Deconstruct record label with his partner Levon Vincent. DEC-001 “Invisible Bitchslap” by Levon Vincent sold out in one week, and immediately put the label on the map, being charted by Marcel Dettmann, Shed, and Jan Krueger. Hardwax and other influential stores are clamoring for more! Parasole also founded the House-N-Home loft-party series with partner Bryan Kasenic. They’ve already thrown successful parties with Jus-Ed, Brothers’ Vibe, DJ Qu, Fred P, and Adultnapper, and will play host to Move D and other artists from the cutting edge of house and techno music in 2009. Anthony is currently working his own original productions due to come out later this year!

Mixed by Shadi Megall & Taimur Agha
Shadi Megallaa
The newest Techno guru on team halcyon, Shadi was raised in Abu Dhabi where there wasn’t much electronic music culture to be had. He caught the DJ bug while studying Architecture in Lawrence, Kansas circa ’97 and was producing his own music by 2000. His first release came out on respected Danish imprint Tic Tac Toe and was followed by tunes forKalimari, Produkt Schallplatten, and Dilek amongst others. Along the way Shadi made a major contribution to the fledgling underground scene in his home town with the Boogie Box party, founded in co-horts with buddy Hassan Alwan of the Buy You Sell Me label. A full length for Igloo Pop recorded while living in Zurich stands as Shadi’s proudest musical achievement thus far, but a slew of new productions completed since he relocated to Brooklyn earlier this year are set for 2011 release, making Shadi a hot producer to watch. The Bandwagon

SESSION 834: THE BANDWAGON 02.02.11
Mixed by Crazy Larry & Taimur Agha
Crazy Larry
Crazy Larry is a young and fearless talent with an insatiable craving for old and new sounds. He fell in love with dance music in 2000, being inspired in his love of wax by Denver’s famed record store Casa Del Sol, where he would eventually be employed. Transplanted to NYC two years ago, Larry brought with him a well deserved rep based on his infamous underground parties, Udder Madness and, in cahoots with Taimur & Co., Cheap Sunglasses. He also brought a fierce yet fun live set that incorporates vintage drum machines, live home made plug-ins, and even the Nintendo Wii. Missing his record slinging days though, Larry recently joined Taimur Agha and Shadi Magallaa on team halcyon. In 2011 look out for Time to Get ILL, the label born from his shindgs of the same name.

SESSION 831: VINYLMANIA 03.04.11 POPUP SHOP
Mixed by Eric Lopez @ Vinylmnia Popup Records in Zakka
Who said Vinylmania is dead?
“VINYLMANIA STILL ALIVE”
Owner Charlie Grappone opened the Vinylmania’s doors in 1978. He opened the store with a sparse selection of Rock records, but after crowds from the Paradise Garage started showing up, he realized his market was with the house heads. Vinylmania quickly became the goto spot for house in NYC, eventually spawning a record label under the same name, and it’s legacy began. Sadly Vinylmania closed its doors in 2007 after almost 3 decades of business. Charlie has since moved his inventory into Downtown 161, a record distributor in Lower Manhattan, where he opens one day a week for a select group of shoppers.
DailySession and Charlie Grappone are going to revive the life and legacy of New York’s premiere House record store — Vinylmania. The doors may have closed in 2007, but Charlie’s love for records still lives on. DailySession will open the Vinylmania pop-up shop in Zakka. So all you people who thought the record store ended when the lights went out, come into Zakka to feel the beat again.

In humble deference to the top flight touring talent they regularly bring to NYC, the dynamic duo behind BLK|Market Membership are too often relegated to opening duties at their own parties, but make no mistake, these guys are a downright wicked pair of DJs in their own right. With the holidays approaching and everyone returning home to appreciate their families, we thought it was overdue to have a family night of our own at The Bandwagon so f@#k everyone else. SESSION 755 : BLESS UP 12.16.10
Mixed by Falty DL, Incyde& Jordan Rothlein
“Bless Up!”
On the fifth day he created bass, then he took an Amen break. And so it was, that on Thursdays the high priests of low frequency would gather at the record store in Brooklyn to perform the ancient rites of the turntable… It is in this solemn spirit of praise to all that rumbles the jungle that the cult we call halcyon presents our latest, soon to be habitual ritual, Bless Up! – Thursdays from 6-9pm at halcyon the shop and archived on percussionlab.com Funky monks take note, Bless Up! is three hours of anything-but-silent devotion to the woofer ripping trinity of Drum and Bass, Dubstep and Dub Reggae. Our own pied pontiff, Liondub administers the wax sacraments alongside a rotating cast of cardinals representing NYC’s holiest DJ diocese. Visiting saints make miraculous appearances and as always, there’s no tithe at the door and plenty of alms for the poor, so you can save while being saved.

Enoe (BFM)
No stranger to NYC’s underground music scene, Enoe is amongst the latest wave of artists experimenting in the 140bpm realm, with mixes and productions exploring all the elements that help drive todays dance scene. In 2008 he was scouted and invited to join the Bass Fueled Mischief DJ crew, and soon became a favorite of the BFM fans. Now with plans of getting his first release, he is ready to make his mark, playing deep and melodic vibes, making it easy for all fans of electronic music to enjoy. Be on the lookout for new releases, dj mixes and other goodies from Enoe.
Anthony Avatar
Anthony Avatar is the last of a dying breed, a true native New Yorker of almost three decades. Anthony was born & raised in the heart of downtown’s melting pot, growing up in The Chelsea Housing Projects, a place where little kids learn what their talents are quickly as a means of socio-economic survival. It is also the same neighborhood to foster the creative morale of Whoopi Goldberg, Grand Mixer DXT, The Wayans Brothers and Rakim, to name a few. Rhythm has always been a fundamental part of Anthony Avatar’s development. He can still call on his earliest memories of his neighborhood filled with Hip-hop on boom-boxes, deep house & disco pumping out of car systems, meringue in passionate flight from apartment windows, and the twilight mosaic of New York City after dark when all nightlife seemingly fled to the legendary Roxy. -

SESSION 695: THE BANDWAGON 026: THREE | TAIMUR AGHA
RECORDED LIVE ON NOVEMBER 10TH 2010 FEATURING MASTER OF CEREMONIES,
TAIMUR AGHA (BLKMARKET MEMBERSHIP / HALCYON | NY)THIS WEEK’S SPECIAL GUEST WAS MY GOOD FRIEND:
THREE (HALLUCINATION LTD – BROOKLYN)
A little bit about the guest artist…
Three Hallucination Recordings was founded in 1992 in Tampa, Florida by Monk and David Christophere. Originally used as a platform to release their music as Rabbit in the Moon, Hallucination Recordings has since released tracks by Jackal & Hyde, Beautiful Confusion, Soulrider, Second-Hand Satellites, Reverse Commuter, House Wrecka, and Pimp Juice. Hallucination has grown into one of the most well respected underground US labels, and now includes the imprints Hallucin8trax and Hallucination Limited. The first sister label, Hallucin8trax, specializing in the new-school version of old-school Chicago Hard House and Breaks, and striving to take off where legendary Chicago label U.C. (Under Construction) left off. Hallucination Limited was founded in 2003 by Pittsburgh-born, New York City-based DJ Three. Hallucination Limited serves as a label for Terry Francis, Phillip Charles, and Three himself, amongst others. The imprint borrows equally from vintage Acid-House, Techno and underground Electronica. As of 2010, a newly relaunched Hallucination Limited is officially a major player again with new music and mixes from Cheap & Deep, Butane, Gadi Mizrahi (Wolf & Lamb), Reverse Commuter, Sycophant Slags (Mr. C & Adultnapper), Seth Troxler & Inxec, and Peter Von Hoesen to name a few.THE BANDWAGON PODCASTS INCLUDES LIVE DJ MIXES (NO PRE-RECORDINGS), INTERVIEWS, TRACK COMMENTARIES AND MUCH MORE.
