  • NEWS: KMBA Party to Return

    From Some Child of KMBA:

“Like a big birthday balloon, it grew so rapidly, expanding well beyond our initial dreams.  But the material supporting this balloon could not withstand such rapid expansion and in an instant — POP!  It was all gone.

Such was the first phase of life of KissMyBlackAss.

Bottom line, we messed up.   Big time.  And it was no one else’s fault but our own.

While most times all you hear from nightclub promoters is hype and illusion, Some Child would like to take this moment to share our humility and humanity.  We deeply regret having to close the KissMyBlackAss parties without notice in November 2007 and we sincerely apologize to all of you, our supportive patrons, who subwayed in from the boroughs, drove in from Boston and Philadelphia and flew in from London and Japan for our party and were so sorely disappointed (yes, we still have all the emails) .  In the days and weeks leading up to that last party, just so many things had become so overwhelming that it came right up to the time we were about to open the doors that night that we decided to pull back.   Believe, it was no easy decision.

Time and hindsight have allowed us to rethink what was right and what was not about the KissMyBlackAss experience.   And because so many of you continue to inquire about it’s return, Some Child is bringing KissMyBlackAss back — retooled, refocused and regenerated.  While we definitely plan to bring back all the wonderful cast characters and themes, right now we’d like to put the majority of our focus on why we started KMBA in the first place — the music.  We’ll cut back on all the celebrity guest djs for now and work more on defining the KMBA sound and the KMBA vibe so you consistently know what we’re offering.

KissMyBlackAss had such an instant success because it was so fresh and new; the name alone made you want to take notice.  And it is in that mindset that when we relaunch, it will be again fresh and new — new day (Sunday house music parties are so over-saturated in NY nowadays) and a new location (we still have mad love for Webster Hall and will return soon but right now every promoter and their mama is in there).    Even the music will be fresher, edgier and more intense.  So stay tuned, it’s coming and it’s going to be fierce!”
