We didn’t make it this year (or last) but were curious to see what we missed and thought you might be too. Here’s a few videos that we pulled from youtube. Yeah, they suck but we can’t complain because we don’t have anything better to offer, sorry…If you can’t stand the videos, there are a few pics and some obnoxious comments to go with them on rhythmism.com.
If you have anything better, post it in the comments please!

The wall on Water and Pearl Streets next to Halcyon in Dumbo got a makeover last night. The previous mural sponsored by Boost Mobile featuring Revok, Retna, Saber and Ewok was redone by a few currently unidentified artists from LA. Anyone know who they are? Here are the pics:
Update: Our friends at dumbonyc.com just informed us that the mural is by a group of 15 artists called Concrete Alchemy. You can read more about them here and check out their pics of the mural coming together here. Thanks for the info dumbonyc!

The new Galapagos in Dumbo had a private party last night, showing off the new space. We snuck in for a quick look around and found it to be…interesting. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to take any pictures on the grounds that we weren’t supposed to be there but we can say that it doesn’t seem to maximize the square footage and isn’t very conducive to dancing or even mingling. The reflecting pool concept was carried over from the Williamsburg space but this time its a bit more integrated with the rest of the venue. Circular platforms (lily pads?) hover over the water and provide space for seating while a mezzanine wraps around the perimeter of the building and provides a birds eye view of the action below. Acoustically it was hard to tell how things will turn out since it is still a work in progress however, last night things were pretty echoey and reverberant. Despite all this, it is a unique design in a great location that will probably make a good performance and art space – just as they planned. The NYSun has a small but recent construction photo and a story to go along with it HERE.
