  • NEWS: MINITEK APOLOGIZES

    From: http://minitekfestival.com/blog/

    dear all,

as we’ve expected, there are many enraged, disappointed and upset people out there that gave minitek’s first edition their support.

obviously we want to apologize for all the mishaps that have taken place over the weekend and we know well that we can offer little to make up for the bad experiences. we can’t blame you for directing all your anger towards us, as we are the official representatives of the festival, however, to save at least a little bit of face, we would like to set a few things clear.

    1) unlike the comments that have been posted, we DID NOT book a night venue that wouldn’t hold the amount of people we expected. instead we worked with a venue that had misrepresented their certificate of occupancy (the official document that restricts the amount of people the venue can legally hold). there was no reason to believe that the 38.000sf venue couldn’t hold the people that had paid for weekend passes at the very least.

Brooklyn Street Artists Show their Work with Projectors in DUMBO this Weekend.

Brooklyn is in the streets this weekend with two nights of public art projections called Projekt Projektor, launched during the artist’s festival in DUMBO, Brooklyn.

Projekt Projektor expands the definition of Brooklyn street art to include the fleeting electronic and animated images of current projection artists in the public sphere; including video jockeys SuperDraw, SeeJ, Jeremy Slater, and Housewife’s Guide to Anatomy, as well as images of street art from photographer Jaime Rojo and stop-action animation from Steven P. Harrington.

Mounted at Halcyon on the Pearl Street Triangle, with a live soundtrack performed by four New York electronic DJ’s streaming live on DailySessions.com, the inaugural installation of Projekt Projektor will show video and stills in the midst of the public art celebrations.

  • NEWS: MINITEK SETS REMOVED

If you’re wondering why many of the Minitek sets have been removed, here’s the answer:

Originally we signed on to broadcast the festival live on dailysession.com but, like many production related issues at Minitek, our broadcast requirements were not addressed in time. When we arrived in Coney Island to discover this we resorted to plan B with Minitek’s permission: “record the festival.” Apparently, none of the DJ’s were told that we would be recording or broadcasting so, naturally, not all of them were happy about us posting their sets and requested that they be removed. We’re sorry that we can’t share all the sets with you but we have to respect the artists’ wishes. The music is the one thing that Minitek got right so we’re doing what we can to get the missing audio approved. Stay tuned…

Update: François K just approved his set. It’s amazing. Go listen to it! Thanks FK!
We’ve submitted requests to the other artists and are awaiting approval. Fingers crossed…
