We’re working hard to bring you some exciting new things as well as expanding our programming with a handful of new guest DJ’s in the upcoming weeks. On Tuesday the 20th, groundbreaking NYC jungle drummer Kamoni is dropping by the Nise Music show for a live audio/video session. Details on that to follow…

We’re pleased to announce that Dex aka Nomadico from Underground Resistance is going to be making regular appearances here on dailysession! The next show with Dex is on the 27th. Stay tuned for that!

“Technically there’s probably not a “season” for graffiti. But springtime is close enough. “You definitely see more names start to show up on the wall once it starts to warm up,” said Evan Roth, a tagging connoiseur and a founder of Graffiti Research Lab. His group takes a more high-tech approach than popping open a can of spray paint: in one recent project it used lasers to tag structures, including the Brooklyn Bridge, above, remotely (and erase-ably). Other works include projectile LEDs and mobile street furniture; all are documented on its website, graffitiresearchlab.com, so others can copy its ideas.
…On Sunday, at the PopRally series at the MOMA, the group will screen its first film…
…On Friday, Shepard Fairey, the designer known for his Andre the Giant sticker brigade, will be the DJ at the Guggenheim for its First Friday’s party.
…Also on Friday, the Ad Hoc Art gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, will open “The Threat of Chance,” in which taggers like Lady Pink are invited to bomb an installation in the space.
…On May 10 the Woodward Gallery on the Lower East Side will host the debut exhibits of Matt Siren and Darkcloud, known for their work on stop signs and outdoor ads.

Normally this would go right into the event listings category but it’s news to us and might be to you too…Apparently Shepard Fairey, aka OBEY, is now a DJ as well? Who knew? He’s schedule to be playing what the Guggenheim mailer calls “an eclectic mix of old school hip hop, 80s, rock and electro as well as some unexpected oddities and well known classics.” That doesn’t sound too promising but the man does have artistic talent. Maybe that translates into musical talent as well?

Curbed just reported that the Issue Project Room has signed a 20 year lease for the theater space in 100 Livingston. In it they plan to build a “permanent home for the future of experimental culture.” Read more about I.P.R here.

DAVID BYRNE INVITES EVERYONE TO COME PLAY THE BUILDING
May 31 - August 10, Battery Maritime Building
Playing the Building, a 9,000-square-foot, interactive, site-specific installation by David Byrne, will transform the interior of the landmark Battery Maritime Building in Lower Manhattan into a massive sound sculpture that all visitors are invited to sit and “play.” Playing the Building marks the first time in decades that the second floor of the building will be accessible to the public. The space will be open and free to all visitors on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from noon to 6pm throughout the summer. Click here for more information.
