In 1990, a 13-year-old who wanted to know what went on inside of Max’s Kansas City during the late ’60s and early ’70s would have to search for clues. He would pour over passages in Jim Carroll’s Downtown Diaries enough times and listen over and over to the Velvet’s Live at Max’s, recorded in 1970, pausing especially for the few snippets of unmuffled dialogue (Lou Reed telling the crowd to dance; Carroll asking a waiter for “a double Pernod”). He would take a walk up to Park avenue South and East 17th Street, see what was there and try to blot it out with an imagined black-andwhite marquee moon. If he did all that, a mental picture might begin to come into focus: andy Warhol’s red-lit court and its swirl of artists, drag queens, superstars and speed freaks.
Sunlight hit sequins at Electric Zoo, a two-day electronic dance festival on Randalls Island. For 12 hours a day on Saturday and Sunday, disc jockeys (not all using discs) pumped out 4/4 beats from four stages, and dancers in party costumes — with cat ears, fake-fur leggings, fluorescent wigs and all kinds of glitter — raised their hands in the air to channel them.

It was the second annual Electric Zoo, sold out with 25,000 people each day. In a musical zone that diligently parses itself into subgenres, the festival’s 67 acts added up to both a dance marathon and a broad-spectrum survey, from crowd-pleasing trance and relentless techno to abstract minimal house. In the three tents and on an outdoor main stage, with D.J.’s front and center acting more like cheerleaders than technicians, every style put bodies in motion.
Michael Rother and Friends Perform the Music of NEU! with Steve Shelley, Benjamin Curtis, & Aaron Mullan

The legendary German group NEU! released only 3 albums between 1972 and 1975, but these albums had an influence wildly disproportionate to their modest commercial success; praised by and influential to David Bowie, Hawkwind, Iggy Pop, DEVO, Sonic Youth, Stereolab, Autechre, Radiohead, U2, Wilco, Primal Scream, and beyond. In May 2010 Gronland Records will release a box including these three LP’s and an incredible batch of bonus material. Also this year will be the first live presentation of this music in more than 35 years.

Michael Rother and Klaus Dinger first came to the public’s attention shredding Hendrix-toned riffs and pounding monotonous, tom-heavy beats in a particularly psychedelic 1971 version of Kraftwerk. The pair left after 6 months to form NEU! and took with them their tandem musical language that would go on to have a far-reaching influence. Dinger’s propulsive beat is often cited as the quintessential motorik drumming, while Rother’s guitar playing made something new from a variety of influences: The timbres were of rock music, but the melodic sense was something else- the scales were bittersweet and very European, accompanied by a Middle-Eastern style open-string drone. The trio of Rother, Dinger, and producer Conny Plank created a cohesive universe where straightforward tones and melodies intermarried with heavily processed elements, where reality could turn itself inside-out or stretch out seemingly forever.

Rother and Dinger parted ways after the third NEU! album. Rother concentrated on his collaboration with Cluster (Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius) as Harmonia, and starting in 1977, released a series of solo records. Dinger began a new project called La Dusseldorf. The pair regrouped in 1985/86 but were never able to complete another album to their mutual satisfaction. In 2008 Klaus Dinger passed away. Regarding the NEU! box set, Rother says: It was my aim to present Klaus Dinger´s musical strengths and visions just as much as my own ideas. All during the emotional process of reworking our album Klaus was on my mind and I contemplated what he would think about my decisions. I was very relieved and moved to hear from his heir Miki Yui that she was pleased with the result presented with the album NEU!´86.”

Inspired by revisiting these recordings, Rother has invited a group of musicians to visit the NEU! universe with him for a series of live performances: Steve Shelley, Benjamin Curtis, and Aaron Mullan will perform a limited number of concerts this year as ‘Hallogallo 2010.’ This group will perform NEU! music and selections from Rother’s work with Harmonia and his solo albums.

Steve Shelley is best known for drumming in Sonic Youth since 1985. He has also recorded or performed with The Fugs, Allen Ginsberg, Arto Lindsay, Loren Mazacane Connors, The High Confessions, Christina Rosenvinge, Richard Hell, Giant Sand, the Matt Zivich Trio, Ron Asheton, Townes Van Zandt, Cat Power, The Raincoats, Brigitte Fontaine, Robert Quine, Enrique Morente and many others.

Benjamin Curtis is a member of School of Seven Bells, and was a founding member of Secret Machines. He has collaborated with Rother since 2004.

Aaron Mullan is ½ the guitars of Tall Firs. He has collaborated with Chris Corsano and The Matt Zivich Trio, amongst others.

A perfectly executed terrible joke—the hokey throat-clearing sound between the two “asshole”s seals it. And so it goes with the whole of “Florida University,” triumphant closing track to his third-straight deliriously triumphant solo album, the modestly titled Love King.

It’s a wantonly juvenile kiss-off, the song, a poppy frat-party trifle you’d despise if, like, LMFAO or Maroon Five or whoever, was behind it, particularly given the lyrics. The last line before the chorus is, “So forget you ever heard of me/This is short for ‘Florida University’ “; the chorus, designed to be shouted en masse, is “Eff you/Eff you/Eff you/Eff you.” Ridiculous. A fifth-grade sensibility at best—maybe fourth-. Plus it can’t help but remind you of Tim Tebow. No way. You know better than to find this song amusing. And yet in Dream’s hands it is profoundlyamusing, and amusingly profound. The genius here lies in taking objectively terrible ideas—getting emotionally involved with this guy, for example, given his penchant for “Patrónin’” and general sexual profligacy—and making them seem like brilliant ideas.
At a party for its fourth anniversary last month, 3rd Ward, the arts and design collective in Bushwick, received a commendation from Mr. Markowitz for its program giving free bicycles to members. But 3rd Ward hardly needed the boost: hundreds of people had come to its brightly painted labyrinthine space to celebrate. Outside were bands and burgers; inside there were demonstrations of screen-printing, woodworking, weaving, designing jewelry and welding, as well as vodka-spiked strawberry lemonade. (A bike was powering the blender.) [Read More]

In addition to those requisite markers, this one has one more: diversity. Welcome to the Afro-Punk Festival. [Read More]

GET INVOLVED IN THE MARKET HOTEL PROJECT! ANNOUNCING – a new initiative to create a sustainable, all ages, open-to-the-community, 7-nights-a-week home for independent music and art, in the Market Hotel space. Market Hotel has existed for over two years and in that time has hosted countless legendary events and drawn huge international notice… all of this under the constraints of operating completely underground and with no budget. Now the time has come to channel that momentum and create a fully realized space that serves the whole community, that will help define the NYC / Brooklyn scene into the future.

MARKET HOTEL PROJECT is a new not-for-profit organisation dedicated to swiftly reopening and improving the Market Hotel space, by making the venue more viable, comfortable, safe, and better able to weather legal attention. Especially in these days of ever-encroaching commercialism and corporatism in “indie rock,” we envision a space that is a non-commercial “spiritual home” for independent rock music and independent art – but also is sustainable and sanctioned enough to expand the horizons of independent-minded tastes, and open our doors to music and art from the rest of our diverse Bushwick community.
ETNIES AND KONBINI PRESENT THE ED BANGER 7

Etnies and Ed Banger Records continue their creative collaboration with the launch of THE ED BANGER 7 a new web-documentary broadcasting worldwide on Konbini.com starting Monday, June 23rd 2010.

2010 is a big year for the epic label Ed Banger Records. Not only does this year mark the label’s 7th anniversary, but also the peak of their worldwide domination of the electronic music scene. With the release of Uffie’s long awaited album and Breakbot’s groundbreaking debut EP Baby I’m Yours, it is not just in Europe that Ed Rec is making its mark. From Los Angeles to Tokyo, Ed Rec mania is taking over.

To mark this symbolic birthday, Ed Banger organized a huge week-end of celebration in NYC featuring the artists that have contributed in making the label a household name: Justice, Uffie, Busy P, DJ Medhi, SoMe, Sebastian, Breakbot, Feadz.

Konbini, the internet’s most creative and forward-thinking Web TV has captured this unique event in electro music history in an exclusive web-documentary to be released worldwide in June 2010 only on Konbini.com and Etnies.com : THE ED BANGER 7. To create a weeklong event around the program, and to respond to the high level of enthusiasm from the fanbase, the 7 episodes of THE ED BANGER 7 will be released over one week, one episode a day from June 23rd to June 30th 2010, then available to watch and re-watch online for free on Etnies’ website and Konbini.com. The documentary features the whole Ed Banger crew as they discover New York, the American club scene and are exposed to their rising success in the U.S. The series focalizes on real-life scenes and the chaotic and fun-filled lifestyle of professional DJs.

THE ED BANGER 7 also marks another step in the already successful collaboration between Etnies and Ed Banger Records. In May 2010 the two brands released an exclusive collection of shoes under the name ETNIES and keep on strengthening their partnership in a creative and entertaining way with this original web-documentary.

Sharing common skateboard roots in Paris, Pierre-Andre Senizergues of Etnies and Pedro Winter of Ed Banger are united in their passions – music and skateboarding – and will keep on exploring new territories to surprise their worldwide fanbase.

June 24th MeanRed Productions’re presenting a Crush mini-fest as a part of L Magazine’s annual Northside Festival!! They’re packing 2 rooms with bands we’re crushin on…

Crush is a monthly party showcasing “Dance Bands We Love” – bands who’s music makes us feel like we’re bathing in champagne and skipping through meadows. They don’t make us dance like say, the cabbage patch or running man, but they move us all the same.

Yes Giantess
Yes Giantess is an indie pop quartet based out of Boston Massachusetts. With Ratatat-sized synths and huge pop choruses, Yes Giantess is pretty much the sonic equivalent of flying down the yellow brick road while its raining ecstasy and skittles. Their music sounds like they put Passion Pit, MGMT, Friendly Fires, and a synthesizer in a blender, mixed it up and came up with their own individual sound. Yes Giantess will definitely have you up and moving to the sounds of their synths.

Fang Island
Fang Island describes its sound as “everyone high-fiving everyone.” And, the Brooklyn quintet’s anthemic and soaring songs make it quite possibly one of few bands befitting such description. Its finger-tapping guitar lines, chanted vocals, triumphant harmonies and overall perky songs hearken to the sort of “Total Music” of the Fucking Champs, Jay Reatard, Ponytail, Kraftwerk, Marnie Stern, Thin Lizzy, et al. But, perhaps more so, its songs are like the music in your head at that moment when everything feels just right: that first kiss, that high score on the video game, buying your first small nation in cash… you know, good stuff.

Bounce with Big Freedia, Rusty Lazer, and New Orleans Bounce Dancers
Big Freedia, the self-titled queen diva, is one of Bounce music superstars. Bounce – derrier-focused beats with call & response lyrics music — started exploding out of New Orleans a few years ago, powered by the queer rap community. Don’t want to dance? It’s not up to you. Bounce will bring the NOLA heat until you lean over and shake it. Big Freedia will be joined by DJ Rusty Lazer and a posse of New Orleans Bounce Dancers.

Iran
Part TV on the Radio, part Until the Light Takes Us- Iran is indie rock buried in fuzz and hiss. Iran take ultra catchy pop, and drag it through the detritus of lo-fi noise rock, picking up an ungodly assortment of buzz and blur and scuzz. Imagine a Pavement record on Siltbreeze. Or Sebadoh, if Lou Barlow was a jaded fuck instead of a sappy romantic. Or old Smog covering Skullflower. Or Harry Pussy playing Built To Spill. A beautifully cacophonous mess. Iran play damaged folk music, bombarded on all sides by a wild assortment of squeals and shrieks, static and hiss, and speaker clogging grit. Huge and slowly shifting, dronescapes that evolve into perfect little pop songs and then explode into jagged shards of high end skree. Iran are psychedelic and textural and noisey and totally catchy.

MillionYoung
This one-man dream pop band follows in the footsteps Toro Y Moi and Washed Out, with hypnotic, loping synth loops and floating vocals. Thank you, Mike Diaz, for these beautifully chilly soundscapes. We can’t wait to share you with everyone else.

Dinosaur Feathers
“With tribal drum patterns and intricate dance rhythms at their forefront, Dinosaur Feathers manage to take a sound typically tagged “experimental” and turn it into something warm and accessible.” – the L Magazine
“With little more than a drum machine, acoustic guitar, and keys, this duo spins a skewed funhouse of pop music…” – Earfarm

No Surrender
Brooklyn Based Electro crew innovators on the scene who have recorded with Radioclit, TV on the Radio, Crunc Tesla, Evil Nine, FreQ Nasty, Mike Ladd, Badawi, and Dub Gabriel. They have shared the stage with the likes of Ninjasonik, The Very Best, The Last Poets, and shared the screen with Ice Cube, Jason Lee, Trace Adkins…and now they’re ready to crawl out of the underground.

Anton Glamb
Anton Glamb is the DJ, producer, composer, rapper, performer, vocalist, song-writer, artist and skateboarder hailing from Hawaii but transplanted perfectly in Bushwick. His first internationally released track was on Ursula 1000’s 2009 release ‘Mystics’ on ESL Records.

Tayisha Busay
When they aren’t rolling around in piles of glitter and beaming out ridiculous lyrics, they are cuddling their keyboards and grinding up on their synthesizers in front of adoring fans. But it’s their crazy outfits and choreographed dance moves that makes us adore them so….

with DJs:

Denny Le Nimh
This NY native is well known for his amazing dj skills and fucking incredible off the hook parties of NY past including Ruff Club & Germs. He’s got some new things cookin up his sleeve so come check out him and his crew!

LE1F, Jason Pants & Chaz Requina (Palms Out Sounds)
We’ve been following these boys for years and have been in love since day one. They run the ever so awesome blog Palms Out Sounds and represent with some of the best booty shakin parties in NYC.

To our Yardies…

Over the past four years, we have worked hard to create BKLYN Yard. You watched us grow from a small unknown independent venue into a space that hosted the best tacos in NYC, incredible talent (Lee Scratch Perry, Kaiju Big Battel, Dan Deacon & Jose Gonzalez to name a few), the Sunday Best dance series, the Gowanus Harvest Fest, the BK County Fair, Score! Pop-Up Mega Swap, Parked: Food Truck Festival, and countless lobster bakes, pig roasts, BBQs and more. This past Memorial Day Weekend, we were so proud to open our doors and display all the hard work we have been putting into the space to make this summer even better…from our new bar, to our atm, to our bocce court. Thousands of you came out and supported us and made it one of the most beautiful weekends we have had yet, so we are sad to announce, that last weekend was the final weekend of BKLYN Yard in our Carroll Gardens home.
In 2004, Dennis Kane and Darshan Jesrani met during a sound check. A friendship and creative bond grew from that moment and Adult Section and Strobe Lodge eventually began. June 4th will be the next installment of the Strobe Lodge, and DailySession recently sent Darshan and Dennis some questions, via email, to get a better look at what pushes them and delivers such solid parties.

01. How did the two of you meet and begin playing records together?

DJ: I think the first time we met was at a sound check downstairs at APT on west 13th st. This was probably back in 2004-5.. Not too long after we did our first Adult Section night at a short-lived place called Opus 22, which was near the West Side Highway, an ill-fated venue which ended up closing because one of the bouncers shot someone right outside. That one good night we did there was enough though, to set the tone for what was to come.

DK: We went in together to preview and EQ the new funktion 1 system at APT, I think in 2004, shortly after that we did a party at Opus 22, it was a one off really, but we had a great time and thought – why not do it again.

2. What bonds you both creatively when it comes to playing events together?

DJ: Probably just that we both aspire to play with the most feeling we can, and that we try to play up to people and make the place happen in the best way we know how at the moment. We try to employ some thought, and overall desire to see something different happen each time, each in our own way.

DK: Well different but sympathetic approaches, but ultimately the desire to make the night as enjoyable as possible while exploring whatever genres of dance music that inspire us. Drive the bus up the hill, and then floor it down the hill! Seriously the idea of a crazed bus trip sounds like an apt description. The nights have always been full on, and there has been an offhanded and easy rapport with a really great crowd of people.

3. When and how did Strobe Lodge come about?

DJ: The first Strobe Lodge parties we did at Love, I believe in late 2006/early 2007, on West 8th & McDougal. The club is still running, though in a slightly different form than it was when we were there. The sound system and booth in the place were unrivaled, but there were other factors that kept us from setting down roots. On we went… To a loft on Canal St. where we brought our own sound, staffed the place with our friends — Dennis even installed a huge A/C in the front window. Valiant as that was, the place still ended up being an utter sweatbox. Needless to say, this was encouraging.

DK: Well the first one we did at Love – summer of 06′ I believe, Love had the new GSA sound system and it was a joy to play on it, Gary did an amazing job, the booth really set the standard. We screened the Barbet Schroder film “More” to start out the night. It was a great way to open a party. Aside from the exemplary sound not much else about the venue was right. I played with Harvey on his last night there, last July…by then the system suffered from lack of upkeep and shortly after it changed ownership. We went next to this loft on Canal street, Anthony and I installed the largest AC we could get, Dar was finding home delivery port-a-johns, Tino from RTS hooked up the sound, and it was a crazy sweaty night, the walls were perspiring.

4. What is the idea behind Strobe Lodge’s party and theme? Are there any policies or select musical styles?

DJ: While I’d stop pretty short of calling our style of playing “eclectic” I’d say that we dip into a whole range of stuff to try and serve a singular feeling. In the middle of our nights the music centers in and around different styles of 4/4, new and old, disco, house, euro/imports, R&B, all kinds of stuff. On the edges things get fuzzy…

DK: One thing for sure – we take some time to warm it up, build the vibe, and then also go as late as one possibly can! Make sure the energy is good and people are getting down and while doing that try to avoid habit or cliché, play those records that you really want to hear, do it with fervor….as my son would say; “Correct styles!”

5. How many people were behind the start of Strobe Lodge, and how many are working on it now?

DJ: In the beginning I guess it was Dennis, myself, our friend Anthony on the street promo, SPAM at the bar, SPAM’s sister and some security connects on the door. That was really it. Now we’ve got some more great people involved, and we plan on solidifying what we’ve already built and taking it farther.

DK: In the beginning it was the two of us, with our pal Anthony on street promo, Spam and his sister Kiera holding down the bar and door respectively. Now Len Wiggins from coolinthepool.com partners with us and was a huge help with the last one, Sean B is in full effect as well, there is always a crew of people who come and help us pull it off, we are so fortunate to have the support.

6. What is the difference between Strobe Lodge and Adult Section?

DJ: Strobe Lodge is something we do which is completely our own. We find a space, bring in our own sound, bar staff, door and security help. We set the mood, we sound check carefully, we use a Urei and isolator from Dennis’ studio, we run a film silently — something provocative and pretty to look at. From here we build a vibe very slowly from 10pm onward with the music we’re most into at the time. Stuff for the people and for ourselves simultaneously.
Adult Section is a night we do at more-or-less established club venues where we try our best to convey our vibe and ideas about playing records to a mixture of our crowd and the built-in crowd of the place itself. There have been some great nights and places. Opus 22, Table 50, most recently Cielo.

DK: Strobe Lodge is a labor of love, we trick out a space and build a vibe, our staff, lights, imagery, etc….
Adult Section is where we try to bring the vibe to a commercial venue, the sound system at Cielo has made it easy. We always have a ball there and we will be celebrating our second anniversary on the 18th of June (special guest Morgan Geist).

7. What inspired the both of you to begin DJ’ing?

DJ: I don’t know, I guess it was inevitable. I have been into records and music technology forever, since I was 8 or so. There has always been a certain quality to songs I love, which I feel like I need to broadcast to others. As I get older and wiser I’m peeling back and understanding the layers of what it means to play music for people at a nightspot, or anywhere really. I’ve also been fortunate enough to partner with some very talented people who contribute to my growth.

DK: As a kid I collected and played records, I had a mini turntable and was always into getting new stuff, but also checking out what friends had and going to their house to dance, it was such a great social thing. A total ballast to the misery of the mundane. As I grew older it was a habit that stayed. I recently DJ’ed my sons 4th birthday it was so much fun seeing these kids go off… (well once they got over the oddity of seeing actual records) It is still such a powerful gesture sharing the music you love.

8. How do you feel about NYC’s DJ and Club Scene today compared to the past?

DJ: Since I started going out in NY in the mid 90s I can only refer to that far back. I know that the city hadn’t yet started its massive turnover of real estate and everything that came along with it, including tougher nightlife regulations, impossible rents and unavailability of space. This is sort of where we are now. I’d read that in the 70s there were literally thousands of cabaret and liquor-licensed venues in the city. Now there are like 300.

DK: Things have changed a great deal, the real estate industry has done so much damage to the idea of a “downtown”, that one no longer exists, Brooklyn seems to be the future. Also concurrent with that, the marketing of “youth culture” has made DJ’ing a social trope… it’s bizarre really, but you can’t let it get you down, entitled networking socialite, fake bearded hipster, whatevs. Just connect to the music, and try to remember the joy that got you going in the first place.

9. Are there any new releases that you’re excited about?

DJ: Mostly the stuff I’m working on, forthcoming Metro Area album, etc.

DK: The new Disques Sinthomme “Ledger”, a new Ghost Town edit in a few weeks, The Idjuts did a great remix of a track from the Cantoma album, Gerry(Rooney) & Joel(Martin) have some new stuff coming out, there is always a counter force.

10. Can you tell us how you came up with the name Strobe Lodge and it’s meaning?

DJ: We were trying to come up with something kind of playful that has a few different connotations having to do with our ideal of a night, without actually saying it outright.

DK: Obviously we watched the Flinstones! We wanted something that was occlusive and fun, something that was emblematic… now if we can just get some crazy hats.

Seated together with his fellow DJ/promoters—North Carolina transplant Justin Carter and Irishman Eamon Harkin—at a bar in Fort Greene, Singer, an Ohio native, reminisces about a decade spent partaking in and promoting dance parties amid the cement strictures of New York, and how far the scene here has fallen. “With bottle service and Manhattan club life, going out became a chore. So we’re bringing it back to where you don’t have to be into anything other than having a good time.” [Read More]

Before 2005 Jonathan Sklute was working in finance and moonlighting as a hip-hop artist and DJ. But in 2005, Jonny decided to leave the spreadsheet world and open his own record shop, chasing the dream many don’t dare to touch. Good Records NYC was born and after word got around on the internet, DJs and collectors from around the globe were interested in what Jonny and the crew were selling. The list of rare and pricey selections can get as high as the four-figure range, but Good Records NYC has plenty of dollar bins, re-released, and used records to keep any shopper’s pocket satisfied.

DailySession is proud to bring Jonny and his crew on board for our LIVE broadcasts. Starting June 4th @ 8pm (EST) we’ll be broadcasting LIVE every FRIDAY from the Alphabet City record shop, and we can’t wait to hear what they’ll be adding to the DailySession line up.

Mark Gorton is a confident guy. He’s confident about his ideas. He’s confident about his enthusiasms. And he’s confident that his successes — like making money on Wall Street and promoting alternative transportation in New York — provide a record that backs him up.

But that confidence faces a new test. Two weeks ago, a federal judge ruled that he and the popular file-sharing service he created, LimeWire, were liable for copyright infringement and could be forced to pay up to $450 million in damages.
TWO SOUNDS CLASH 3 : Friday May 28th 2010! Marcus Visionary “Carib” LP release…

JUST ADDED!!! We are very proud to present::: PINCH (Bristol UK) from the Tectonic, Ear Wax, Soul Jazz, Planet Mu, Tempa & Punch Drunk camps with his signature, deep and heavy sound. (EL B and J-Da Flex cancellation)

When they write the history of dubstep, it’ll be hard not to mention Rob Ellis, AKA Pinch, in the first few lines. As the label boss behind Tectonic, he’s signed some of the genre’s biggest tunes, and nurtured some of the genre’s biggest talents. As the founder of the Subloaded party, he was among the first to push 100% dubstep-oriented events in his homebase of Bristol.

But it’s as a DJ and producer that Ellis has truly made his mark. Hugely versatile, yet consistent enough to have an identifiable sound, Ellis has spent the past decade honing his craft and pushing the genre forward in equal measure. That careful balance looks set to continue: In the past year, he’s jettisoned Fruity Loops for Logic, and will release the first non-dubstep release on Tectonic, Pursuit Grooves’ Foxtrot Mannerisms. Inspiration, it seems, is coming from all sides. And most of it, as you might expect, is on dubplate. At the moment, Pinch’s bag is full of heavyweight, bass wrenching dubs. This will be a set not too miss!!!

Friday May 28th 2010 will be a legendary night in nyc history as Liondub International and Konkrete Jungle Outernational present the 3rd installment of their already infamous TWO SOUNDS CLASH PARTIES…This event, which as always features two floors of serious bass heavy sound, brings in some heavyweight talent from across the world to celebrate the release of Marcus Visionary’s first full length “CARIB” LP on the liondub international imprint, which officialy drops at all major digital retailers on MAY 2nd, 2010…Singles off the CARIB LP have garnered support from heavyweight DJ’s like Rusko, Annie Nightingale, MJ Cole, Benny Page, Shy Fx and Mistajam just to name a few. The album is focused on Marcus’ genre defying 140 bpm sounds that he has developed over the past 3 years, but you can also expect a full audio assault of dubstep and jungle from him as well.

To top the main room off, Iron Myke of Enkryption Project will drop serious bassweight as Human? hosts and drops his signature “Fuck Your Genre” sound on the crowd. This room will be absolute heat!

At the same time, the Reggae and Dancehall VIP room will feature a Live set from Jahdan and Liondub who are both celebrating the release of The General video as well as Jahdan’s participation in Marcus’ full length release with hits like The General Remix, Brooklyn Anthem Remix and Mama So Divine Remix. To top things up even further, Brooklyns own secret weapon Livity Movements will drop Reggae heat alongside, Silvacat Sound with Jugganaut and King Capone. Lastly our resident video man, and dubwise specialist, Amadeus, will bring the roots reggae and dubwise flavor to open the VIP room up..

This night will go down as one of the most monumental events in NYC. Dont miss history in the making as Two Sounds Clash returns to Brooklyn, Friday May 28th, 2010. Jungle & Dubstep face off with Reggae and Dancehall!

Sponsored by Liondub International | Konkrete Jungle | Elanef | Halcyon The Shop | Dailysession.com |

Last night the Limelight Marketplace opened to press and New York City luminaries like the Real Housewives and Richie Rich for a preview prior to this afternoon’s official opening. What was once a pulsating, sweaty nightclub is now a clean, glossy mall! Only it’s like the scaled-down version of something you might find in suburbia, with stores that feel more like kiosks than full-fledged retail outlets. We went to investigate with hopes of stealing a disco ball and acquiring some free lotions and/or chocolate. And all our dreams came true! However, we can’t imagine having a reason to return in the future other than wanting to show friends and out-of-towners how nice the new black-and-white tiles are and remark, “Can you believe that MarieBelle used to be the D.J. booth?” [Read More]

Trim, blue and white, it fits neatly in the hand, sized so its contents can be downed in a New York minute. It is as vivid an emblem of the city as the Statue of Liberty, beloved of property masters who need to evoke Gotham at a glance in films and on television.
“Vinylmania may have closed the shop doors, but it’s legacy lives on.”

Owner Charlie Grappone opened the Vinylmania’s doors in 1978. He opened the store with a sparse selection of Rock records, but after crowds from the Paradise Garage started showing up, he realized his market was with the house heads. Vinylmania quickly became the goto spot for house in NYC, eventually spawning a record label under the same name, and it’s legacy began. Sadly Vinylmania closed its doors in 2007 after almost 3 decades of business. Charlie has since moved his inventory into Downtown 161, a record distributor in Lower Manhattan, where he opens one day a week for a select group of shoppers.

DailySession is proud to bring Charlie Grappone and the Vinylmania crew to you every Tuesday with “The Vinylmania Sound Library” show from the Vinyl Mania Warehouse. The shop might have closed, but they’ll be bringing you all the music you loved when it was open.
