MORE:
This event promises to embody the mission of two entities: BOOM restaurant and lounge and the edu-tainment ’empire’ of the Second World Group with it’s Founder spinning music as her alter ego, Selectress Iriela. Iriela got her start as a Boston radio personality on 88.9FM Boston, and as a member of experimental music and arts collective Toneburst, and later went on to marketing campaigns for Heartbeat Records and opening for such major reggae acts as the Wailers, Burning Spear and Luciano. Selectress Iriela is also known as Valerie Parker, who conceived of nonprofit Second World while on a global trek of fair trade activism that took from living in Jamaica around the world to such places as India, Peru, Nepal, Iceland, Egypt, Italy and Singapore. Since 1998, Parker kicked off the nonprofit organization Second World and it’s sister production company Second World Productions. Together the largest fair trade music and arts festival in the world was born, The New England Culture Fest, which recently expanded to become Culture Fest International ethical global events. In addition the Fashionably Fair campaign advocates for ethical (and edgy) fashion. Expect to hear more via Global Groove and prepare to party.

BOOM : THE ENVIRONMENT:
“Tarot-card images of the Hanged Man and the Star representing risky ventures and tenuous hope, respectively—hang over the bar at Boom. However, this wine bar-restaurant defies its own prognostications by having thrived for over sixteen years in a neighborhood that’s notoriously unforgiving of aging beauties. The venue has evolved gracefully from a destination for slinky singles into a warm but sophisticated space that can accommodate everyone and attract a fresh crop of angular Soho lovelies as the evening wears on. ” — Jessica Stockton

Why GLOBAL GROOVE? :
The party is an exclusive chance to support the Selectress’s charter. Her nonprofit, Second World’s art empowerment documentation projects around the world go hand in hand with fair trade advocacy and educational programs (lectures, exhibits, and workshops) and large music festivals. On the Second World website under “Initiatives” please find information regarding Second World projects which involve not only documentation and in-depth research, but also the education of the public through marketing initiatives and the development of art empowerment projects and micro-credit funds to re-establish income generation in disaster/conflict affected regions. Second World continues to develop these initiatives linking the North American consumer with communities throughout India, Nepal, Peru and Jamaica to increase awareness of fair trade and increase the number of orders given to cooperatives, along with establishing a self-sustainable online portal of multimedia information regarding fair trade, and its cultural/economic impact for disadvantaged indigenous and marginalized communities.

About SECOND WORLD:
A passion for music started it all. Bridging the gap between the so called “First” and “Third” World, with media, music and art. Second World is a dynamic non-profit arts and development organization combining media, music and art for a better world. As a leader since 1998 dedicated to the marketing of fair trade artisans, and their stories, the nucleus of Second World is a multimedia research archive of educational tools for the fair trade marketplace. Based on over a decade of research, Second World aims to address the crucial need for fair trade education. Ultimately, Second World hopes to bridge the gap between the “First” and “Third World” through media documentation, musical events and fair trade art empowerment.
