Greene Performance Space will open its doors on Charlton and Varick Streets in Lower Manhattan, with ambitions to be more than just another of the electronic-news-ticker-wrapped, street-level broadcast studios that have popped up across the city since NBC’s “Today” show pioneered the trend. Passers-by will be able to peer in on public radio in the making; talk shows hosted by Brian Lehrer and Leonard Lopate, as well as the programs “Evening Music” and “Soundcheck,” will begin monthly broadcasts before audiences there.
