“On Tuesday WNYC radio’s Jerome L. Greene Performance Space will open its doors on Charlton and Varick Streets in Lower Manhattan, with ambitions to be more than just another of the electronic-news-ticker-wrapped, street-level broadcast studios that have popped up across the city since NBC’s “Today” show pioneered the trend. Passers-by will be able to peer in on public radio in the making; talk shows hosted by Brian Lehrer and Leonard Lopate, as well as the programs “Evening Music” and “Soundcheck,” will begin monthly broadcasts before audiences there.
