Drummers have gathered in this welcoming corner of Prospect Park for over 30 years. It is difficult to pass by the Drummer’s Grove on a Sunday afternoon without being lured by the irresistible rhythm, the vibrant dancers, and the celebratory atmosphere that pervades the air.
In 1968, the Congo Square Drummers began gathering here informally. Since then, the circle has expanded to include an ever-evolving mix of musicians, dancers, and vendors. The growing popularity of this area as a site for a weekly drumming circle inspired the Prospect Park Alliance to add seating and officially name the site. Anyone is free to bring their drums and participate, or just stop and listen while passing by on the East Drive.
